Off the Rails DT Share Mosaic Eggshell Background Technique

Hi there!

Today I wanted to share this fun technique I found on the net a few years back using egg shells to create an awesome Mosaic Background as part of my DT work at Off the Rails Scrapbooking.

I have included a link to a tutorial from Splitcoast Stampers below also:

Products You Will Need

Eggshells (Raw)
Household Bleach
Cardstock
Glue - Matte Medium or a Mod Podge
Alcohol Reinkers Assorted Colours - Adirondack
Water Mister
Paint Brush

To start you need to prepare your eggshells so they are ready for your project. Firstly you need to soak the eggshells in bleach overnight and then remove the membrane from the inside otherwise the shells won't adhere as well.  They also say white eggshells are better, for the colour to be more vibrant but I like to be different and used brown, I like the look it gave and plus it's what I had when making this tutorial lol.........

Once the above step is done you can then get onto the fun part creating your background.  I decided I wanted to make a square card so my background piece will be square too :)

I found that it is easier to work in small areas too!  I used Matte Medium to glue the eggshells down,
First up you place a piece of eggshell, making sure it is outside up, and press onto the glue with your finger to break into pieces.  You will notice some of the pieces will come up I just re stuck them back down.

You continue this process until all your cardstock is covered and you are happy with the result. Once it is dry you can then trim the excess eggshells off your card.

Next up lightly spray with some water.  You can then begin to add your first colour of alcohol ink while it is still wet.

And your next colour.....

I continued adding my alcohol ink colours until I was happy with the result. You can add an extra spray of water to help the colours spread, but being careful not to add too much that the colours blend together as you may get a bit of a muddy mess!

I even added a few drops of Metallic Gold alcohol ink just to give it a bit of shine. Once all dry you can give your piece a coat of glaze or sealer as it will make it stronger and even add some Pearl Mists to give it a shimmery look.

I have then adhered my eggshell background piece to my card.

And finished it off with some embellishments and a birthday sentiment.

A couple of tags I made a while back :)

Well that's all from me today, I hope you feel inspired to crack out those eggshells and have a go, such a fun and effective technique.....

Until next time happy crafting.
